Biography of Bikash Gotame.
Bikash Gotame was born on 16 October 1952 in a place called Labda in Mangyu under Darjeeling district. His real name was Bir Bahadur Gotame.
After matriculating from Saraswati High School in Mangpa in 1971, Vikas Gotame took teacher training and started his teaching career in Mayu. He later completed his M.A. as an external examinee. Till the end of the study.
Vikas Gotame was an active member of the Marxist Party of India. He also expresses the voices of the exploited in his poems. Throughout his life, Gotame, a progressive poet, wrote poems against injustice and oppression. He has been composing poems, plays, etc. since 1965.
His poems call on the exploited to wake up, communicate the consciousness of fighting the capitalists and gaining their rights. Vikas Gotame is one who shows the way of revolution by showing a clear class distinction between the bourgeoisie and the exploited class of the society and making the exploited aware of their position and condition. He is a revolutionary poet.

He died on June 28, 1992 at the SSKM Hospital in Calcutta after a long battle with heart and kidney disease. Even a few days before his death, he was writing on his death bed with an optimistic voice.
